Wish we wore: Sophie
The 2006 movie The Illusionist from director Neil Burger was nominated for an Oscar for Best Achievement in Cinematography. And there’s a good reason for it. The story, set in early 1900’s Vienna has all the ingredients for a dramatic love story.
Eisenheim, a magician played by Edward Norton falls in love with the beautiful Sophie (Jessica Biel) a woman far above his social standing. She is engaged to Crown Prince Leopold (Rufus Sewell) but Eisenheim uses his magician skills to set her free.
The costumes in the movie are done by Ngila Dickson (Lord of the Rings, Blood Diamond, ..) and are simply breathtaking. She captures perfectly the beauty and wealth of the royal house of Vienna. Dickson had her work cut out for her, recreating the royal uniform for the prince, hundreds of extras, a magician, the gorgeous Jessica Biel and all that while remaining the essence of the film, the illusion of it all. Making turn-of-the-century clothing look hot is a challenge, but somehow she managed it.
We wouldn’t mind wearing Sophie‘s dress to our own wedding.
